“The Building of a Village” – Using “retired” shipping containers as the framing of the buildings, Dick Martin, will oversee the construction and teach the volunteer workers from the Haitian community and members of the Midtown Rotary to create a school building, dormitories, cafeteria and medical clinic. This will become the basic boarding school.

F
unding has been secured to complete the Le Nouvel Horizon boarding school. Our participation is to provide as many tools as possible for the construction of this “school village.” We have two ways to be involved: actually give tools that are needed to build the various buildings and/or to give a monetary contribution to help to purchase the tools.

Le Nouvel Horizon Boarding School, Haiti

Before the 7.0-magnitude earthquake of January 12, Haiti already had 380,000 orphaned children. The deaths of parents crushed under rubble could see the number of orphans double, up to as many as one million, not counting other vulnerable children (OVC). Child Laborer/Restavec children, 250,000. Disabled children, 525,000. Two hundred thousand or more are in orphanages or institutionalized group settings, (source FHI/USAID). This is a substantially higher proportion of orphaned children in institutionalized settings than is found in most other countries. In the long run, the institutional approach has serious negative implications to their lives.

We believe all children deserve the opportunity to thrive, not just survive. Through ARCF’s endeavors we have seen this proven true. People are society’s most valuable resource. It is mankinds responsibility to recognize this, and help build communities where we create capabilities not dependencies, where every child can have a future and dream...
